Is God (Pascal’s Gambit)

 

Pascal, many years ago,

A scientist himself,

Saw how people using science

Put “God” upon a shelf:

“If you bet God does not exist,

Of what winnings can you sing?

You may be right, but if you are,

You have not won a thing!

But if on the other hand

That is the bet you call;

And it turns out that God exists,

Then you have lost it all.

Now, let’s say the other way,

The wager that you bring:

You bet God is, and you are wrong;

You have not lost a thing.

If by that bet, you live your life

And rise above the fall;

If God is, and you are right;

Then you have won it all.”
